BRUSSELS, July 5 (Reuters) – The European Commission announced on Friday that it has asked Amazon (AMZN.O) to provide additional details about the measures it has implemented to comply with the Digital Services Act (DSA).
Specifically, Amazon is required to furnish detailed information about its compliance with transparency provisions related to recommender systems. The EU has set a deadline for Amazon to submit this information by July 26.
The DSA mandates that major technology companies take more proactive steps to address illegal and harmful content on their platforms.
Amazon has acknowledged the request and is in the process of reviewing it. “We are reviewing this request and working closely with the European Commission. Amazon shares the goal of the European Commission to create a safe, predictable, and trusted shopping environment,” said an Amazon spokesperson. “We believe this is important for all participants in the retail industry, and we invest significantly in protecting our store from bad actors and illegal content, while fostering a trustworthy shopping experience. We have built on this strong foundation for DSA compliance.”
